Evolving Influence Conference Giveaway

1. September 2010

We're very excited to announce that we will be part of the Evolving Influence conference on September 9th in New York City. If you haven't heard about the event yet, here's the deal:

Independent Fashion Bloggers - a network of roughly 10,000 bloggers led by Jennine from The Coveted - is kicking off Fashion Week with a star-studded event centered on bloggers' growing influence on the fashion industry. As bloggers continue to capsize the old, stodgy ways of fashion, we found it only appropriate we combine our revolutionary forces.

(Side note: If you haven't seen Jennine's write-up on our made-to-order shoes and handbags yet, check it out here.)

There will be some big names on hand, to be sure: Gala Darling, The Cut, Cupcakes & Cashmere, FashionToast, BryanBoy, Style Bubble, LOOKBOOK.nu, and BlogLovin'.

"[They will] share in-depth information about how their blogs catapulted them to new career heights. Whether you want to become a major player, monetize your blog or just get inspired, IFB has the resources you need." (IFB)

To celebrate the event (and our recent launch), we are throwing the 1 Day 100 Winners Giveaway. Fifty winners selected from those in attendance will receive a free pair of shoes or handbag; fifty winners selected from those following along online (whether livestream, liveblog or Twitter) will receive a half-off pair of shoes or handbag.

How do you enter? Great question! Just follow us on Twitter and share the following tweet between now and Sept. 9th.

‘I desire it. @jeffsilverman makes it. Follow him & retweet for chance to win free custom-made shoes or handbag. #IFBcon’

That's it! Winners will be announced on Twitter throughout the event.

If you haven't registered for Evolving Influence yet, do so right now. It's well worth the price of admission.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Why

30. August 2010

The feeling started when I was a child, hearing my family's stories about working in the fashion business. It grew with my first job as a retail salesperson. And after years of working for many fashion companies (and starting several of my own), I finally came to grips with one unmistakable truth.

The fashion industry doesn't make any sense.

Sure, fashion is art. But art without reason isn't very pretty.

Twelve months before you see a new shoe or handbag, companies start the design process. Designers scour the globe in search of ideas - some inspiration comes from Europe, some from "street fashion." Of course, they also visit vintage stores and vintage libraries to see what's been done before. All in the name of trying to predict trends in style, color and material - one year in advance.

The designers present their selections to internal committees, which eliminate many choices. Then retail buyers reduce those options even further. Keep in mind: everyone's basically guessing (and betting) what you'll want. They are often wrong. Hence, there's always too much of what you don't want and never enough of what you do want.

What's worse, retailers start selling boots in August, but are sold out by the time you really need them. They put sandals on display in January, but are out of stock as soon as it warms up.

There is a better way.

We don't produce anything in advance, so we're able to offer a limitless selection of styles, color and materials. We make your creations on demand, so it's always available. We even encourage you to suggest new styles and different looks - you can literally modify anything to your precise liking.

You provide the creativity, we provide the science, and suddenly fashion makes sense. After nearly 30 years in the industry, I can tell you it's not a moment too soon.

You desire it. We make it. Guaranteed.

Who We Are

30. August 2010

I have worked in the shoe industry since I was 16 years old. Over the last 30 years, I've worked for several shoe companies (such as Nike and Steve Madden as well as a few I started myself) and have been directly involved in every aspect from sales to product development to manufacturing to marketing to e-commerce.

In 1992, I started a custom-shoe company that had five retail stores before it was sold. I proved that shoes could be made on demand in a short amount of time and for the same price as off-the-shelf footwear.

In 1994, I launched an online children's footwear company that is still wowing customers today thanks to a selection only made-to-order offer. We learned how to provide a virtually limitless variety of styles, colors and materials only possible where shoes are made to order instead of styles, colors and materials only possible where shoes are made to order instead of made in advance and stored in inventory.

In 1995, I launched a business which ran e-commerce sites for fashion companies. It was with our largest client, Steve Madden, that I learned that made-to-order shoes could provide the freshest fashion. We proved that we could have what was hot precisely when it was hot. We also perfected the ability for consumers to design their own colors - and even their own shoe. In fact, this is why Steve Madden bought our company and named me president.

My team decided to leave Steve Madden in order to start Jeff Silverman. It is my firm conviction that must-have fashion brings joy to many people. This company's purpose is to adapt to trends in real time and deliver continuous must-have fashion straight to you. We invite you to experience Fashion Nirvana.

You desire it. We make it. Guaranteed.

How We Do It

30. August 2010

We have nearly 30 years experience in international design, development and manufacturing. Our founder has been credited as the father of mass customization in footwear and handbags by Oprah Winfrey, CNN, The New York TImes, NBC Dateline - and even the number one newspaper in Italy, the fashion capital of the world.

Our factories make shoes and handbags on demand - in any color or material you want. Factories work with Jeff Silverman because they know (like us) that selling directly to an informed consumer is the future. We know how to get your custom order to you quickly and effectively, so you pay the same as you would for a similar item off the shelf.

The old way is broken.

Currently, fashion companies hire designers to scour the market. They pick, alter and create. They make a finite amount of styles, colors and materials, which is whittled down even more by front offices and retail buyers. All because of limited budgets and limited imaginations.

Nobody knows what consumers want, so they guess and hope. And they usually fail.

At Jeff Silverman, we don't guess and hope. We listen and deliver.
